My name is Grace Konrad, and this is my second year teaching 5 Day Clubs. I am 15 years old and I'm from Edmonton AB. This summer I am excited for learning to follow the Holy Spirit's leading and I can't wait to see how God will be working in the lives of the children we teach and how He will be teaching me through it! Some prayer requests for the summer are: (1) an open heart to listen to the Spirit's leading (2) focus on the children and not on my own needs and wants (3) joy and not discouragement for clubs

Just a quick update on last week: Friday is always the worst because you’re not sure if you will ever see the kids again but I was so thankful for how great all of the clubs were! There was a decision in the first club that the hostess and I had been praying a lot about. Also, one of the kids whom I had shown which pass it on card was my favourite came up to me after club and said “Here, this pass it on card is for you. You learned all of the verses, you deserve one too!” For the rest of the clubs, the kids were able to listen pretty well (with the threat of not giving them the hacky sack), which was such an answer to prayer! Getting pied was lots of fun as well!

So this week (Shamus and I are teaching together):

Club 1:

This club was one of my favourites last year and I was so excited to be able to follow up with the kids, especially as you can tell that a lot of them need love and attention! There is one kid in particular who made a decision last year but is not really connected to a church or other believers at all. It was super discouraging though, because our club is at 9 and we had no kids come yesterday and only one today. When we went advertising later in the day, a lot of the kids seemed interested and some wanted to come to the club right then, but most of them are not awake at 9. I would really appreciate prayer that the kids would be up and ready to come to club in the morning and that the girl who came today would be able to bring her friends. Especially pray for the girl who accepted Jesus last year, but has no follow up, I would really like to see her at the club.

Club 2:

This club has also been pretty discouraging because there have been no kids and there are not a lot in the neighbourhood. As we were advertising I kept needing to remind myself that Jesus has overcome, especially as one of the houses with a negative response had a little devil in their front lawn, and most of the houses that we went to had no one home anyways. Not only would it be an encouragement for us if kids came tomorrow, but the neighbourhood needs Jesus!

Club 3:

This club is super encouraging after a long morning of kidless clubs! Yesterday we had 4 and today we had 9 and the kids are great listeners! Today the ones that came yesterday said that they didn’t want to come at first, and we thought there would be no kids again, but before long some other kids had come to the club. Later, the ones that had come yesterday changed their minds! A lot of them are going camping for the next few days, so a prayer request is that they would be able to come back on Friday and have another chance to respond to the invitation.

Also just a general prayer request is that the weather wouldn’t be too terrible tomorrow and that if it is raining, that kids would know that there is still club and come! Also for continued energy and a reminder to trust God especially if there few or no kids in our clubs.

This week clubs have been super fun but also pretty challenging. At the beginning of the week I was super intimidated teaching on my own, and was finishing my clubs super early. Now it’s getting easier though, and I’m starting to enjoy teaching on my own more than I thought I would.

Club 1: This girls in this club are really sweet and they are super excited about learning their verses and helping me hold the words for the songs! They are enthusiastic about inviting friends and siblings. It is a really nice way to start the day! A lot of them had accepted Jesus last year at club and it’s exciting to be able to come back and encourage them in their faith, especially as they don’t have very many opportunities to go to church or get together with other believers.

Club 2: The kids in this club have a tendency to get sort of wild and I need wisdom on how to be loving and positive while still getting them to listen to the stories and sing the songs. I would really appreciate some prayer! It has really varied with the amount of kids but today we had 9, but one day we had just the host’s kid. All of the kids are super energetic and fun, but sometimes their energy is overwhelming.

Club 3: This is the biggest club this week with around 20 kids and it turns out that almost all of these kids go to my church! It was awesome because this week we have had lots of decisions and I know that I will have a chance to follow up with them as I will see them almost every week! These kids are pretty good at doing their lessons and Gwyneth and I are letting them pie us if they get 30 lessons. I’ve never been pied before so I’ll see what happens:P

Club 4: For this club I could also appreciate some prayer for being patient with the kids as well as helping them to listen. Most of the kids are super though, and the one boy keeps saying, “I like stories, be quiet so she can tell the story.” Those kids also go to my church, which is kind of cool and they are all so fun to teach! This club was an amazing answer to prayer because one club had been cancelled and I really wanted four clubs for the week. Then my friend comes up to me on Sunday  and wants to have a club that starts the next day! There were also decisions in this club and it’s great to see them asking questions and figuring out their faith for themselves!

A big thanks to Mr Wilcox for driving me around this week! It was kind of scary when we saw two full itineraries with only one driver. Also thanks to my Cee Gee for praying! Sorry I’ve been unfaithful with posting on the blog, I’ll try to get better.

Training this year was a blast, I was so sad to leave, but I’m excited for the summer ahead! God has already been working in amazing ways, and I can’t wait to see what He does next! For the practice club this past week, we had no kids on the first day and we were all pretty discouraged, especially because we had felt that we did a pretty good job of advertising. We did some more advertising though, and at one of the houses the mom said that her daughter might be interested in helping. We gave her an invitation, and who knows, she might end up teaching! Anyways, on Tuesday we had been praying a lot for kids to come to the club and had had a lot of positive responses from our advertising on Monday. There was a much more positive spirit in the car as we were trying to trust God, whether or not there were kids. The night before, I had read an encouraging scripture, and I read it as we drove to the club. It was 2 Chronicles 20:12, 15, 17 “For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you… This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’” Later, while they were praising God, their enemies basically started killing each other. This passage was just so encouraging to know that God is in control, and it’s not our advertising or anything that we do that will bring kids or spread His Word in the neighbourhood. It’s only God, and He will take care of it. Unfortunately, there were still no kids at the club on Tuesday, however on Wednesday God answered our prayer! Joy had been praying specifically for three kids and we had exactly three kids! That club was fun, however, I still felt that the kids were not completely engaged with the Bible story and memory verse. Afterwards, we played with them a bit and on Thursday, there was another kid and after the Bible story, there were two decisions to follow Jesus! It was incredible to see how God provided kids for us to be able to teach, and also how He prepared their hearts to receive the gospel! Praise Him!
