UPDATE!

So last week (August 10-14) was awesome because I got to teach in Regina which meant I got to sleep in my own bed for a WEEK. It was also pretty awesome because 9 kids gave their lives to Christ in my two clubs and VBS. The VBS was actually at my home church, which was also pretty cool to get the opportunity to teach. The kids in the VBS were so attentive and interactive- I really enjoyed being able to teach it 🙂

This week I’m teaching in Calgary! I have family in Calgary so I get to stay with them. This week I’m teaching 2 clubs and a VBS.

My first club is kind of crazy… it has 30 kids aged 2-7. The majority of the kids sit and listen but there are a handful of 2-4 year olds who are little less interested. I would really appreciate prayer that they would listen (even if it doesn’t look like their listening).

On Monday, my second club had the hostesses 2 kids (who were age 12 and 13) and then one boy who was 10 who really didn’t want to be there. Today when I got to their house the hostesses decided that the club should be cancelled because of lack of interest.

In the late afternoon I have a VBS and I absolutely love it. The kids are so sweet and funny- it’s definitely an awesome club to end the day with. One kid actually cried when I didn’t finish the Little Rascal story… He was very worried about if the blood poisoning will get to Tony’s heart or not. Another awesome thing about this club is that today 2 sweet little girls gave their lives to Jesus!!!

I’m pretty tired and almost looking forward to being able to sleep (I can’t even remember the last day i slept in haha), but through my devotions this week God has really been emphasizing that He isn’t done working through me, so I need to finish strong. And really, that my work isn’t done as soon as Friday night hits. My job of reaching the lost extends into my regular life, too. Evangelizing and reaching God’s children isn’t a 9-5 job. So I’m looking forward to reaching out to the people God brings across my path as I head into my 2nd year of university.

PRAYER:

  1. Energy
  2. That my large 1st club will listen and sit nicely
  3. That the children who have come to Christ this summer will grow in their faith
  4. That God will continue to soften the hearts of the children and parents

PRAISE:

  1. I have had the opportunity to lead 41 children to Christ this summer
  2. I have had safety on all of the roads and highways (and there’s been basically no gravel roads)

“Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” Colossians 3:23-24

Thank you all so much for your prayers, especially to my CG who has been praying faithfully for me every day this summer!

God Bless,

Janessa

“Welcome to Calgary”, the kids tell me, as a bright sunny day has transformed into a torrential downpour of rain and hail in a matter of an hour.  It was sunny when I was teaching the club, so I am now trapped in the entryway of the house without a rain jacket, about 30 meters away from my car. Rather than abandoning “the poor guy” to fend for himself in getting to his car for his next club, the kids kindly lend me a makeshift umbrella: the giant bucket they had been using as a boat in a massive puddle outside the house.  By the time I make it to my next club an hour later, it is bright and sunny once more.  Welcome to Calgary.

Club 1
We’ve had about 8 different kids at this club, largely from churched homes.  There are lots of kids in the neighborhood, who the hostess’s kids have invited, but I believe they are also mostly Muslim families, and so we have not had a lot of them come.  Please pray that God would soften the parents’ hearts to allow their children to come. And pray that God would just use the presence of this club as a light to the neighborhood, even if they don’t send their children.

Club 2
The first day of this club, we just had the hostess’s kid to start, but then he invited 4 other kids from around the neighborhood, who just kind of wandered in and out of the club as they felt like it. But at the end of the club, I had the opportunity to lead one of these kids to Christ!  On the second day only the hostess’s kid and one boy from the first day returned… I guess there was some sort of event going on in the neighborhood.  However, I was just hanging out with the kids after the club ended, and then many of the neighborhood kids came out and were playing sports with us.  I invited everyone to join us today, so please pray that God will bring the kids who He wants there. And pray that He will give me opportunities to share His love and the Good News of the Gospel with these kids even if that’s only through hanging around after the club.

Club 3
Club 3 has been a smaller one… both days’ attendance have been the hostess’s two daughters, and different one of their friends each day.  All of these girls come from church backgrounds, so just pray that God will use me to encourage and challenge them to continue to grow in their relationship with Him.

Club 4
We have yet to actually meet for this club, as both evenings have been quite rainy and the hostess is renovating her house and doesn’t have any space indoors to have the club.  In a normal 5-Day club setting, we probably would have cancelled the club by now, but this might be the only chance some of the children in this neighborhood get to have the gospel clearly proclaimed and be invited to accept Jesus into their heart.  So please pray that the weather will cooperate and that we’ll be able to have a club, even if it’s only for a couple of days.

Thank you for reading.  Thank you for praying.  God bless.

I thought the title for this blog was suitable, seeing as it rained and stormed ALL day…giving me quite the adventure.

My first club was a VBS held inside the church, so the rain wasn’t a problem at all, thank goodness! I had 17 kids attend this VBS, which was amazing. Although I had a few kids in the club that wouldn’t listen and were very disrespectful to me and the other kids around them. They would complain about everything, and didn’t have a desire to learn about Jesus what so ever! Pray that the rest of the week would go well, and that those kids that weren’t listening would be “turned around” and would desire to know more about God. Although those kids were a distraction, the club went well seeing as  there were 6 kids who accepted Jesus into their heart today! 🙂 It was such a blessing to be able to lead them to Christ. They were all around the age of 10 and were VERY serious about accepting Jesus into their heart, and were also super excited!

My second club didn’t go as planned, it was pouring outside, and the club was suppose to be held at a park across from the church. For the first 15 minutes no one showed up at all, and I was worried about where this club was going to be held. Anyways 4 kids ended up going to the club, and we ended up having it on the front steps of the church protected from the storm. Praise Jesus! One of those kids was a Muslim and his mom sat through the whole entire club, and was VERY interested. At the end of the club when I gave the invitation 3 of the boys who NEVER heard about Jesus before, accepted Jesus into their heart. I made sure that they were certain that they wanted to follow Jesus…and they said that they wanted to be changed, just like Zacchaeus! it touched my heart ! Now the Muslim mom told me that her and her kid were Muslims, I asked if she would like the little book of John that I gave the other three boys, and she gladly accepted. Please Pray that the rain would stay away for the rest of the week, so that we would be able to continue to have this club, in a more comfortable setting. Also pray for the mom and her kid who took the book of John home with her, that they would come back 🙂 And Accept Jesus!

Now sadly…my 3rd club is cancelled for the whole week because it’s suppose to storm, and her club was to be held at the park! But don’t worry, she re-booked for August 🙂

It was quite an interesting first day! Got lost a lot….got stuck in traffic because of the storm! But overall 9 kids accepted Jesus! So I have a lot to be thankful for 🙂
